About Pahdo Labs

We are a gaming startup building an anime-inspired creative RPG, mixing our favorite aspects of fighting games, role-playing games, and game making tools into one seamless social experience. We have raised over $17.5M in seed and Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Pear VC, BoxGroup, Neo, Zynga founder Mark Pincus, Eventbrite founder Kevin Hartz, and Cyan Banister.

We are seeing an explosion of interest in anime in the west: Jujutsu Kaisen, Genshin Impact, and collaborations in League of Legends/Fortnite are early indicators of a greater trend. As anime fans ourselves, we are incredibly excited to be building a 3D isometric action RPG with an anime-inspired theme, where players can create their levels and game modes in our multiplayer world.

The Role

As a Principal 3D Artist & Animator for Pahdo Labs, you will responsible for all 3D art and animation for an anime-inspired Action RPG. You will define the character pipeline and be the primary individual contributor for 3D art and character animation. You will report directly to the Creative Director.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Art Director to translate the high-level art direction into in-game 3D art and animations for an anime-style isometric action game.
  • Create 3D visual assets and animations, directly (primarily) and via outsourcing.
  • Own the character/animation production schedule, and develop a highly efficient system for producing 3D art and animations.
  • Partner with engineering to optimize performance of animations in Unity.
  • Establish character and creature modeling and animation pipelines.
  • Partner with tech art to develop a scalable, extensible rigging system.
  • Execute on an anime-style visual target.
  • Uphold Pahdo culture and values; be a leader and role model

Desired Qualifications

  • Past experience with Unity, and deep experience with at least one major engine
  • Familiarity with the end-to-end character pipeline; we currently use Maya and mGear.
  • Credit on at least one shipped commercial game project from start to finish
  • Experienced playing Hades, MapleStory, Monster Hunter, Genshin Impact, Fate/Grand Order and similar titles
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience playing games and consuming anime/manga, new and old, across a variety of genres

Compensation

  • We are open to a range of experience and working arrangements for this position and will offer commensurate compensation.
    • Base Salary Ranges:
      • Full-Time in New York, NY:
        • USD $100,000 - $150,000
      • Full-Time in Vancouver, BC:
        • CAD $100,000 - $150,000
      • Other geographic markets:
        • USD $75,000 - $150,000
