We are a gaming startup building an Anime-themed massively multiplayer dungeon building RPG game, blending the best qualities of top-notch action games, role-playing games, and game creation tools into one beautiful social experience. We have raised over $17.5M in seed and Series A funding from a16z GPs Andrew Chen, Jon Lai, and Josh Lu, as well as BoxGroup, Neo, Pear, Zynga founder Mark Pincus, Kevin Hartz, and Cyan Banister.

We are seeing an explosion of interest in Anime in the US: Attack on Titan, Genshin Impact, League of Legends (Battle Academia skins) are early indicators of a greater long-term trend. As Anime fans ourselves, we are incredibly excited to be building a 2.5D multiplayer world with an Anime-inspired theme, where players can make their own islands and games (starting with dungeons!) within a single shared world, and add custom art and stories to their creations.

The Role

As a senior technical artist for characters at Pahdo Labs, you will:

  • Work closely with our engineering and art teams to help turn our artists’ vision of a beautiful, anime-themed world into reality
  • Develop and own a 3D character pipeline, including modeling, texturing, rigging, and shaders
  • Write tools and pipelines to support the animation team, such as a tool for technical markup in Maya, export/import scripts, and Perforce integrations

Responsibilities

  • Set the foundation for the character pipeline to bring our characters to life
  • Research and develop creative and performant rigs for a variety of character designs
  • Create tools and workflows to enable an efficient import and export pipeline
  • Finish your mission and tasks with autonomy, occasionally taking on the role of a project lead or producer if necessary

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in rigging, technical art, or character technical director roles
  • Past experience with Maya, Python/PySide2/PyQT5, other scripting languages
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote work environment
  • Have helped ship a title from start to finish, especially multiplayer action games with an isometric camera (e.g., Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III, League of Legends)
  • Willing to work with Godot Engine

Nice-to-Haves

  • 8+ years of experience in rigging, technical art, or character technical director roles
  • Past experience working in Godot Engine or with C++
  • Abilities in areas such as modeling, animating, VFX, and shaders
  • Past experience working on cross-platform titles and/or massively multiplayer hero-based games (e.g., Genshin Impact, Overwatch)
  • Familiarity with UGC game platforms and tools like Roblox, Rec Room, Halo Forge, RPG Maker, and Mario Maker
  • Love for anime and stylized cel-shaded 3D and 2D art styles, and past experience working on projects with that kind of look

  • Salary Range: $95,000 - $170,000
